OPC Drum

OPC Drum(Organic-Photoreceptor Drum) is a component of a toner cartridge, which makes the images that we can see with our eyes. It is made of some organic materials and has the characteristics of being mono-directional or bi-directional conductor under a certain power of light exposure.

Initially charged CTL surface keeps high potential during the laser beam exposed area makes potential drops. The uneven exposure makes latent potential contour which will be developed into real image of toner. We call this process ® Electrophotography

  • Avoid prolonged light exposure. Sunlight and electric lights can stress the OPC drum. While short exposure is recoverable, long or strong light can cause permanent damage.
  • Prevent physical impact to the surface. The OPC drum surface directly affects print quality. Any physical impact that deforms the coated layer will cause print defects.
  • Avoid finger contact and water. These can cause temporary print defects. However, long-term contamination can crack the CTL.
  • Keep solvents away from the OPC drum. The outermost CTL layer can dissolve in certain solvents or absorb solvent vapors. This disrupts the OPC drum's photoconductive function and leads to print defects.
